Closing balance for allowance for doubtful debts = 8% * $52,200 = $4,176

Closing balance for allowance for doubtful accounts = Beginning balance of allowance for doubtful account + Bad debt expense

$4,176 = ($5,240) + Bad debt expense

Bad debt expense = $4,176 + $5,240 = $9,416

2. Net realizable value = Account receivable - Amount estimated to be uncollectible

= $1,753,500 - $184,190 = $1,569,310
