There are strategies a country can use to repair or control environmental disasters.
Create an argument with four to six points on effective strategies for the economic re-development of the Aral Sea.
Include the following within the argument:
Problem:
The Aral Sea is located between the Northern part of Uzbekistan and Southern part of Kazakhstan and the two rivers that feed this lake are Amu Darya and Syr Darya. Uzbek towns during Soviet rule were forced to shift their livelihood towards cotton farming near the Aral Sea. Due to their ill-irrigation schemes the Aral Sea reduced to 25% of its original size due to cotton production( which consumes huge levels of water) which was once the world's 4th largest lake. In 1960's the Aral sea was originally supporting the thriving industry of 'Fishing'.
Strategies:
Uzneftegazdobycha, a private company found an useful method to examine hydrocarbons below the seabed. People of Uzbek see this is as an additional revenue opportunity (but it glorifies the disaster even further). So the governments of this region are damming the small water bodies which will remain. Also various projects came in order to improve water supply and sanity hoping in order to increase the financial stability and also the technical sustainability.
Willingness to pay:
Various projects for water supply and sanity are definitely striving to improve the conditions of this lake but the investments in water sector are not stable in terms of finance and so they are definitely willing to pay for water. In the short run, they will thrive to avoid the disaster as far as possible but in the long run it will glorify in one or the other way but it will definitely stand as an example for other governments to take cars of their concerned water bodies.
