The shortage of nurses is the primary issue in every hospital. There are many reasons for this shortage.

1. Increase inpatient population

The excessive intake or admissions are allowed by the hospital management to get the maximum profit. But they have limited nursing staff and it is very difficult to handle the overflow of patients with an excessive number of patients. This leads to a shortage of nursing staff.

2. Workload and less salary

In some of the hospital, the nurses are getting very less salary compared with the workload in the hospital. Many nurses have complained that they even do not have time to eat lunch or urinate during duty hours. This leads to a rise in many health issues and drops down from the profession. Even som nurse go away to other places which has a low workload.

3. Limited graduation of new nurses

Nursing courses is a very demanding course because of job security and easy to get a job. But there is a limited school for nursing and they are taking limited students because of a lack of teaching staff and lack of financial support to provide the equipment or material needed for a nursing college for a large number of students. So they take only a few students and produce a low number of new nurses that cannot be filled the shortage.

Some ways that the state government should take action to alleviate the shortage.

- Increase the number of staff nurses intake from another country also to prevent a shortage of nurses in the country. Make easy way or process to enter the country to work as a staff nurse. This will helps to maintain the proper nurse-patient ratio and prevent workload.

- The government should identify the workload of the nurses and provide the salary or increase the salary base on it.

- Financial support should be given to the all the schools of nursing to increase the intake of staff as well as the students.

- Government should develop many nursing program development in the country to increase more intake of students and produce more nurses.
