Implementation control is required in a company for assessing whether the overall strategy needs to be changed concerning the unfolding events and results that are associated with the incremental steps and actions for formulating the same. This control does not replace operational operation; rather it focuses on questioning the basic direction of the strategy. The two types of implementation control that Apple can use for assessing its overall strategy are:
Monitoring Strategic Thrusts- Two approaches can be undertaken by the company in enacting implementation control that emphasizes on the new or key strategic programmes. The first approach would be to identify the thrusts in the planning process that are essential for the success of the strategy. The second approach would be to carry out assessments linked to various meaningful thresholds like time, costs, research and development that are associated with particular thrusts.
Milestone Reviews- Milestones refer to the significant points that are crucial to the development of a programme, where resources have been extensively invested. A review would involve a full-scale reexamining of the strategy and consequently, advising of continuing or refocusing the direction of the company.
