A cannonball is fired towards a cliff with an initial velocity of 300 m/s at an angle of 55º above the horizontal. It explodes 42 seconds later. If we assume that our reference (0,0) is the cannon that fired it, calculate the coordinates (x, y) at which the cannon hits the cliff. Hint: Calculate the range of the projectile in 42 seconds and the height it has in that time

Solutions

Expert Solution

We will break this two dimension motion into two independent dimension ie one along x axis and one along y axis. Therefore we have to take componts of velocity one along x axis and other along y axis. There is no need to take the components of acceleration as there is no force in x direction. All accletation that left is accletation is left accletation due to gravity in y axis. Then by using simple kinematics formula I'm both axis we will get the coordinates.
