Most equations for predicting plume rise contain two terms that account for different physical reasons for the rise. What is the nature of these two terms?
answer: 1) requirement of oxygen for respiration to relases energy[During germination there is a rapid cell division and cell growth which requires energy, this energy is available only by the oxidation of food, hence there is a need for oxygen.]
2) Requirement of water for growth.[So that the seed swells and consequently the seed coat ruptures allowing the elongating radicle to come out and form root system, water is also necessary for the chemical reactions and for the enzyme to act upon the food stored in cotyledons or endosperm so that it may convert into a diffusable form dissolved and uitilised by the growing embryo.]
3) Requirement of optimum temperature (25 - 300C) [Low temperature inhibits the growth & high temperature destroys the delicate tissues, hence requirement of optimum temperature.]
[In terms of physical nature, oxygen is a gas where it undergoes oxidation if it is aerobic oxidation.]
