As per the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) occupational illness or injury is the resulted due to exposure of harmful chemicals during the employment. These occupational illnesses are slow in development and hence in initial stage it’s difficult to identify. These can be detected in the chronic stage. Most of the occupational illnesses are associated with poor air quality, inadequate lightening and lack of rest as the sleep may occur. Hence by reducing such incidences we can reduce the incidences of occupational illness or hazards in the industry.

There are three major types of illness:

Illness caused by inhalation: example Lung Disease as silicosis in coal mines, also the pneumoconiosis as the common dust disease of the lung.
Illness caused by ingestion: Lead Poisoning which causes the systemic toxic effect on the body.
Illness caused by direct contact: skin diseases like industrial dermatitis.
