For your discussion post this week, select one of your favorite companies and research how it uses social media. In your post, identify the social media networks the company uses (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, etc.) and discuss the marketing strategies used. Is the company a frequent poster? Does it run contests or giveaways? Identify at least one way the company could improve its strategies.
As far as use of social media for marketing is concerned my favourite company is "American Express".
Social media platform used by it is it's own created website "open forum".
First of all let me tell you what the open forum means, open forum is nothing but a collaborative website wherein guest authors are invited to share their knowledge of business, challenges faced by them, how they came out of those challenges, their wisdom etc. It provides a content rich webpage which the users would like to visit again and again and thus increasing traffic on website and thus making it a popular one. Audience will continue to visit the webpage as long as they will find the content interesting and never let customer forgetting what is American Express. And the most interesting thing here to note is company is not required to spend any penny of money out of its pocket for all this affair.
Company is a sort of frequent poster here in the sense that it keeps on inviting the guest authors so as to contribute the articles, their business knowledge and wisdom so that their website can be viewed by most of the people.
It also encourages common people to share ideas and in return they provide various privileges to those who provides an inspiring real story.
However, it is not that this strategy adopted by American Express is flawless. They still can improved their strategy in the sense that many of us are unaware of their website open forum. Thus the company is missing out many people because of lack of promotion of their website. They can promote such a brilliant source of getting knowledge of various business knowledge, challenges, failures, ways to overcome them by promoting their website on some more popular social medias like LinkedIn, Twitter or even on Facebook. This will allow the company to increase it's stretch to wide range of people and this thus making it a more popular company.
