Ans)1) Body habitus
- Classification of human beings into four basic body structure categories which describe the body cavity structure (size, shape, position, tonus, and mobility of internal organs)
List thur classifications of body habitus in descending order
(largest to smallest)
- Hypersthenic
- Sthenic
- Hyposthenic
- Asthenic
Body habitus approximate population frequencies
Hypersthenic - 5%
Sthenic - 50%
Hyposthenic - 35%
Asthenic - 10%
- In a hypersthenic body, the colon is located in
high and extends around the entire periphery of the abdominal
cavity.
- In hypersthenic body habitus the heart is short and wide, diaphragm is high resulting in a long abdominal cavity
- Body habitus does the following description belong to
hypersthenic:
stomach and gallbladder rest high in the abdominal cavity and
laterally away from the midline of the body, the stomach is usually
longer than it's longitudinal axis.
In a sthenic body, the gallbladder lies 2-3 inches away from the body midline and 4-5 inches above the iliac crest.
- In a hyposthenic body, the gallbladder lies 1-2 inches away from the body midline and 2-3 inches above the iliac crest.
- Asthenic body habitus has a narrow and shallow thorax with ribs that slope sharply down and extend well above the clavicles, the apicies of the lungs are usually broader than the bases.
- In an asthenic body the heart appears long and narrow.
- Asthenic body habitus does the following description belong to: naturally low diaphragm and a short abdominal cavity.
