The injuries in hospitality industry are common at lot of workplaces.
1. Slips, strips and falls
* In this case accidents are most common in nature among non fatal injuries to employees.
* Every workplace has the capacity to develop a slip or trip hazard.
* A spilled drink in office, curled rug corner in shop, oil or chemical spill in factory.
* when the spills and trip hazards are not addressed immediately turning the risk into a cause.
Prevention:
* Adequate lighting.
* Non slip footwear.
* slippery areas will be signed.
*signal recent spills of signs.
2. Lifting and handling:
* It is second most common place injuries in workplace at hospitality industry.
* Injuries from lifting and handling heavy items tend to revolve around muscle strains.
* The problems include back pain, arm pain, neck pain will result in injuries of handling or lifting.
* These injuries occur due to over stretch of time by handling and lifting of heavy goods.
Prevention
* Ask for help with heavy lift items.
* Training for how to handle or lift heavy goods.
* using techniques and apparatus to lift heavy goods.
3.Struck by an object:
* These injuries cause varying degree of problems from bruises and small cuts to more serious problems resulting in concussion and blindness.
* These injuries occurs due to falling or dropping of items from shells, machinery of moving loads.
Prevention:
* Avoid working or moving under working load.
* Items which are in self stand should be stable.
4. Fall from height:
* Injuries from this case include fractures, broken limbs and bruises.
* These type of injuries occurs due to falling from height I.e from ladders and scaffolding etc.
Prevention:
* Do not overreach when on a ladder or scaffolding.
* controlled poins are designed at work level.
* proper and working ladders should be used.
5. Acts of violence:
* Its difficult to narrow down the resulting injury from this cause of workplace accident or injuries.
* workers conversations or deals of face to face are at risk of violence.
Prevention:
* security measures like CCTV cameras are placed to prevent violence.
* staff meetings will be done to clarify problems, thereby avoid violation.
