In hemorrhagic stroke, an artery ruptures, inducing bleeding in
the brain. The blood damages and compresses surrounding tissue and
may result in cerebral edema. In the sprinkler system, this is
equivalent to a pipe bursting and flooding a portion of the garden
while other parts receive no water flow. To treat hemorrhagic
stroke, hemodynamic stabilization must be attained, and cerebral
edema reduced. Clot-forming agents and surgical procedures decrease
intracerebral bleeding.
1. Which of the following may be used for treatment of hemorrhagic stroke? Select all that apply.
[]Blood pressure reduction to < 150 mm Hg
[]Clot buster
[]rt-PA
[]If cerebral edema, IV mannitol
[]Anticoagulants
Emergency treatment of hemorrhagic stroke focus on controlling the bleeding and reducing the pressure in your brain caused by the excess fluid.
Mannitol is contraindicated in cerebral hemorrhage . Its use cause certain limitations in body.. It can be often used to reduce cerebral edema in acute intra cerebral hemorrhage but without strong supporting evidence of benefit.
Anticoagulants ( blood thinning agents )... Blood thinners are usually prescribed for stroke survivors at a risk of dangerous blood clots. Unfortunately the blood thinners used to prevent such blood clots can increase the risk of bleeding in brain, a cause of hemorrhagic stroke.
tPA cannot be used for hemorrhagic stroke. Which occur when a weekend blood vessel in or around the brain ruptures, causing bleeding into the brain with these type of stroke, tPA would worsen bleeding.
Stroke is an injury to a part of the brain. It happens when something goes wrong with the blood flow to the brain. Blood vessels, called arteries, carry blood and nutrients through the body. One way the brain may be injured is when an artery to the brain becomes blocked and the blood supply is cut off. Without a supply of blood, the brain does not get the oxygen and nutrients it needs. Permanent damage will result if the blood supply is cut off for more than a few hours.
If you or your family member has suffered a stroke within the last four hours, you may be offered a treatment called TPA (recombinant tissue plasminogen activator).
