Why should a woman avoid long lasting anesthesia during delivery of a baby?
Long lasting anaesthesia especially general anaesthesia is avoided during delivery of a baby. During general anaesthesia a complete sleep develops which posses serious risk. General anesthesia causes a loss of consciousness and relaxes the muscles in your airway and digestive tract. Long lasting anaesthesia affect peristalsis as result stomach content can be vomited. there is high chance this vomit is aspirated to lungs leading to pneumonia.
Long lasting anaesthesia cause low blood pressure continously as the blood vessels are relaxed. If the blood pressure drops too low, it can affect blood flow to your baby.
Long lasting anaesthesia cause difficulty in urinating as the bladder muscles are relxed.
Long lasting anaesthesia can cause breathing problems as it affects the muscles of the chest that control breathing.
Chills and shivering (hypothermia) can occur in patients as they regain consciousness after long lasting anaesthesia.
