How will building the nicaragua canal affect the water for the people and the environment. Please provide some sources and answer it in one paragraph.

Solutions

Expert Solution

The scale of the canal is so grand, the price tag so high, the economics so uncertain, the background of Wang Jing so murky, and the potential environmental damage so extensive, that many question whether the canal will ever be built.

Environmentalists say the canal route would destroy biodiverse-rich parts of rainforest. this canal could create an environmental disaster in Nicaragua and beyond. The excavation of hundreds of kilometers from coast to coast will destroy around 400,000 hectares of rainforests and wetlands land designated as autonomous and belonging to the traditional indigenous populations of Nicaragua's Caribbean coast. The effects of construction, major roadways, a coast-to-coast railway system and oil pipeline, neighboring industrial free-trade zones, and two international airports will transform wetlands into dry zones, remove hardwood forests, and destroy the habitats of animals including those of the coastal, air, land, and freshwater zones.
