How do the provisions of NAFTA affect trade in water?
NAFTA's main provisions are to work on gradual reduction of tariffs, customs duties, and other trade barriers between the three members, with some tariffs being removed immediately and others over periods of as long as 15 years.
When there is a discussion on Canadian Alberta provinces and the Alberta water act and market-based instrumentation to make it as equal to the trade object the or ta good for trade. it is not only treated as good there is also the promotion of investment and its implications. so Alberta is exploring—the “pricing” of water and the “regulated trading” of water allocations or water licenses. it is all around the water justice and renegotiation.
The effect is all around the anti-privatization struggles, the campaigns asking governments to keep water out of the WTO and all free trade agreements as well as other ongoing, multi-country efforts that strive to reclaim public water under human rights.
