What is your position on ensuring national security versus individual privacy rights? Why?
Ensuring national security is of as much importance as ensuring privacy of an individual. According to me, both the aspects should move in harmony as if only one is favoured there would be a total disbalance in the country. Government policies should be made such that both privacy and security are in harmony, since none of them exist without each other. Monitoring internet activity of each and every American along with their phone calls is a complete violation of privacy. Rather, the entry of people through the air ways or any other routes should be monitored and any individual who seems to be a suspect, should be monitored . All of the suspect’s phone records and internet activity should be monitored and recorded. Also, every citizen should be carrying a proof of identity. Since every citizen is not a terrorist or a suspect and hence every citizen should not be treated as one.
