Which of the following statements regarding Mendel's experiments are TRUE?
A |
Mendel's 1st law revealed that parents pass on just one trait to offspring |
|
B |
Mendel's 2nd law revealed that all alleles are inherited independently of one another |
|
C |
Mendel determined that each parent passes on two alleles to their offspring |
|
D |
Mendel learned that when crossing 2 true-breeding plants that show different phenotypes, he could produce hybrid offspring |
|
E |
Mendel revealed that dominant genes are stronger because of their DNA sequences |
The most probable answer is Option B
Let's see how
In Mendel experiment he used to parents with contrasting character or trait and the resulting progeny were one of the parents like he named such progeny is dominated over the other one he comes to know that there is a factor which inherits in progeny by there parents which have 2 forms one is Dominant and another one is recessive. Here dominant always express phenotypically. This is all about 1 st low i.e low segregation where each parent contribute for single allele and resulting progeny with 2 alleles each from both parents. Where superior trait always expresses he named such trait is Dominant trait and in case of allele is the dominant allele. In the law of segregation, each gamet will receive either copy of Allele.
Second low is low of independent assortment. This state that allele of different genes inherits randomly and not dependent on others. ( But in the second option i.e B there is no reference of gene only used term all allele)
So from this discussion, we can say option c is wrong because during gametes formation each gamet will receive a single allele, not both.
Definitely, the true-breeding plants will produce hybrid plant but here in Mendel experiment, the resulting F1 progeny were phenotypically identical to parents (dominant) the genotype is heterozygous but the phenotype is like dominant parents e.g height in pea plant. So technically this is wrong in case of the mendelian experiment. But true with modern knowledge.
Last option is incorrect because Mendel was unknown about gene and DNA he only knows there is something that inherits in generation by parents he called it as a factor.
