Expert Solution

There are three spacecraft mission that only visited Jupiter and Saturn are :

  • Pioneer 11- -Pioneer 11 launched April 5, 1973, on an Atlas-Centaur rocket and cruised easily out of Earth orbit towards Jupiter. The spacecraft made its closest approach to Jupiter on Dec. 3, 1974, only 27,000 miles from the planet's atmosphere. With a helping hand from Jupiter's gravity, Pioneer 11 soared toward Saturn. It was a nearly five-year wait until the spacecraft was able to get to the planet, some 930 million miles from Earth.
  • CassiniHuygens-Cassini was active in space for nearly 20 years, with 13 years spent orbiting Saturn and studying the planet and its system after entering orbit on July 1, 2004. The voyage to Saturn included flybys of Venus(April 1998 and July 1999), Earth (August 1999), the asteroid 2685 Masursky, and Jupiter (December 2000). The mission ended on September 15, 2017, when Cassini'strajectory took it into Saturn's upper atmosphere and it burned up.
  • Voyager 1 -Voyager 1 successfully flew by both the Jupiter and Saturn systems before continuing out into the farthest most reaches of our solar system. Voyager 1 has been observing the interplanetary medium throughout its journey, and is now in interstellar space—since August 2012. On Nov. 29, 2017, engineers successfully fired Voyager 1’s thrusters after 37 years of inactivity.
