A rock is thrown downward from a tower with an initial speed of 32.2 m/s. If it hits the ground in under 2 seconds how high is the tower?
We have the equation of motion
Where, S is displacement, u is initial velocity, a is acceleration and t is time of motion.
For the given problem,
initial speed of the rock (u) = 32.2 m/s
acceleration of the rock (a) = acceleration due to gravity= 9.8 m/s2
time of motion = 2 s
Putting these values in the equation of motion,
Hence, the height of the tower is 84 m.
