A student recorded the mass of a glass bead to be 0.7691g. If glass has a denisty of 0.85g/mL, what would the diameter, in mm, of the glass bead be?
Answer – Given, mass of glass bead = 0.7691 g , density = 0.85 g/mL
We know,
Density = mass/ volume
So, volume = mass / density
= 0.7691 g / 0.85 g.ml-1
= 0.905 mL
We know the glass bead is spherical and the volume of the sphere
Volume of a sphere = 4/3 π *r3
0.905 mL = 4/3*3.14*r3
So, r3 = 0.905 mL /4.19
= 0.216 mL
Now taking cube root from both side
r= 0.600 cm
we know the , 1 cm = 10 mm
so, 0.600 cm = ?
= 6.0 mm
We know
Diameter = 2*r
= 2*6.0 mm
= 12.0 mm
So, the diameter of the glass bead be 12.0 mm
