In regards to the monitoring of employee electronic activities by employers and the implications of that monitoring;
Does employee monitoring lead to higher employee productivity? How does employee monitoring impact personal privacy?
Please thoroughly explain your response, giving examples to each point you make.
Employee monitoring may lead to higher employee productivity since due to the consciousness of being monitored employees might perform well and avoid wasting time , for example if employees are monitored via CCTV cameras they will engage less in talking and passing time with fellow workers because they know that if seen by manager in camera they might be questioned about work. However we can not ignore the aspect of having increase stress among employees due to being monitored constantly it might as well result in low productivity sometimes because some employees over stress and keep thinking about the monitoring rather than actually think about work.
When it comes to personal privacy , organization sometimes happens to ignore the personal space of an employee when implementing the employee monitoring system , it is possible that employees sometimes have personal issues and they would not necessarily feel comfortable being monitored in those circumstances, this is specially when PC is monitored along with all the data and browsing that employees do on internet.
