Expert Solution

What kind of medical information in a large health care organization database should be kept confidential? Why?

Answer:

Legally our medical records and health information must be kept safe and private by all medical and healthcare professionals.

Confidential Patient Information is a legal term that protects the rights of the confidentiality of an individual.

There are 2 types of patient identifiable data held in the National healthy system

  1. patient registration data
  2. clinical/care records

patient registration data

  • personal data provided by the patient when they register for health services.
  • Registration data includes name, address, NHS number, name, date of birth, age, sex and address
  • current contact details of the family, guardian
  • bank details
  • guardianship orders
  • incoming or outgoing personal correspondence.

of an individual but does not include any clinical or medical information. These data are used for a range of administrative purposes within the health and care system.

clinical/care records

  • This includes information about their physical or mental health, their condition(s) and diagnoses, assessment of an individual’s needs for social care services, records of care, or treatment given to an individual.
  • service records and file progress notes
  • individual personal plans
  • assessments or reports

Clinical/care records information is always Confidential Patient Information. This information can't be shared with anyone unless there is an exception.

Why?

  • It helps to maintain confidence between themselves and the patient and protects the law of confidentiality of an individual.
  • It potentially allows for the free flow of information between the patient and doctor which helps them to identify health and personal issues associated with them.
  • Some people will judge you by a condition or illness. Patient confidentiality makes sure that their ignorance can't harm you.

What kind of information in a governmental database should be made public? Why?

Public data includes press releases, job descriptions, and marketing materials intended for the general public, maps, genomes, connectomes, chemical compounds, mathematical and scientific formulae, medical data, and practice, bioscience, and biodiversity.

Why?

  • Data about a particular disease like the COVID-19 pandemic will help people to save ourselves by taking all precautions.
  • Data about jobs will help them to solve unemployment problems.
  • Data about climate forecasting helps to manage their plans accordingly.

There are many reasons that data needs to be made publically by the government and some reasons are mentioned above.
