Distance formula based question

Find the distance between the following pair of points

(2,5) , (3,2)

Solutions

Expert Solution

Let P(2,5) and Q(3,2) be the given points,and the line is in straight line.

Here x1=2, y1= 5 and X2 =3 , y2=2

PQ =√(x2-x1)^2 + (y2-y1)^2

         =√(3-2)^2 +(2-5)^2

         =√1^2 + (-3)^2

        =√1+9

       =√10

       Hence the distance between two points is √10 units

Hence the distance between two points PQ is √10 units

This question is inspired by this question/answer pair: Is this formula for the energy of a configuration of 3 fluids physically reasonable? Consider three immiscible fluids forming contact surfaces, where none of the three can make a lubrication layer for the other two (the surface energy between fluid 1 and fluid 2 is not decreased by putting a thin layer of fluid 3 inbetween them, and likewise for the other two permutations). In this case, if all the contact surface...

The cubit is an ancient unit of length based on the distance between the elbow and the tip of the middle finger of the measurer. Assume that the distance ranged from 43 to 53 cm, and suppose that ancient drawings indicate that a cylindrical pillar was to have a length of 5.0 cubits and a diameter of 1.0 cubits. For the stated range, what are the lower values for (a) the cylinder's length in meters, (b) the cylinder's length in...
