You are the first aid responder for the following three victims. Using the flow charts, state how you are going to provide treatment for each of the scenarios.
Asthma
You are out for a walk when you come across a 12-year- old girl who is down on her
hands and knees having breathing difficulties. The woman with her states that she is
her mother, and that her daughter has asthma and has been having trouble breathing
for about 10 minutes. When you ask the girl how she is feeling, she is only able to speak
few words at a time. You notice an inhaler lying on the ground next to the girl. The
mother says that her daughter used the inhaler three or four times without any relief.
Diabetes
A coworker yells for your help and says that someone has passed out in the company’s
lunchroom. You find a middle-aged worker laying on the floor. She is holding a
wrapped candy bar in one hand and can respond to questions. You find a medical
identification tag indicating that she has diabetes and takes insulin. When asked, she
says that she has diabetes.
Seizure
A coworker slumps over in her chair and then onto the floor. She is having a seizure; her
eyes are rolled back, her body is rigid, and she is shaking from head to foot. Her head is
pounding on the concrete floor. She is pregnant and to everyone’s knowledge, this is her
first seizure. The seizures lasts for almost 10 minutes.
