what does the patient self-discrimination act of 1190 do for consumers? What does it require of providers?
PATIENT SELF-DISCRIMINATION ACT FOR CONSUMERS. 1.Patients are given written notice on the admission facilities based on their rights and policies regarding healthcare directives in their state in which they have been admitted.Patient's rights include: a) the right to facilitate their own healthcare decisions b)the right to accept or refuse medical treatment c)the right to make an advance healthcare directive. 2. enquiry about past advance healthcare directive and making a note on the medical records. 3.education to their staff and affiliates about advance healthcare directives 4. health care providers are not allowed to discriminately admit or treat patient based on whether or not they have an advance healthcare directive. PATIENT SELF-DISCRIMINATION ACT REQUIREMENT FOR PROVIDERS: hospitals, nursing homes, home health agencies, hospice providers, health maintanenace organizations,and other healthcare institutions to provide better healthcare directives.
