Public health has been defined as "the science and art of prevention of diseases”, prolonging life and improving the lofe quality through organized efforts and informed choices of society, pub lic and private organizations, communities and individual people.

Environmental health is the branch of public he alth concerned with all aspects of the natural and built environment affecting human health. Environmental health is focused on the natural and built environments for the benefit of human health.

Epidemiology is the study and analysis of the distribution (who, when, and where), patterns and determinants of health and disease conditions in defined populations.

The three main theories explicitly invoked by practising social epidemologists are: (1) psychosocial, (2) social production of disease and/or political economy of health, and (3) ecosocial theory and related multi-level frameworks.

Health promotion is a set of actions to foster good health and wellbeing.

Health promotion involves action:

  • to inform people of what they could do to stay healthy
  • to address the things in the community that influence health and wellbeing the most, so that these can be supported.
