What is unique about managing clinical people? How are they different than non-clinical people?
Clinical people as a term is very generalized. Clinical people deals with any person directly involved in rendering care to the public in the form of diagnosis, treatment and care,eg nurses, doctors. Non clinical people are people not directly involved but support the clinical people eg. Receptionist, clerk.
Managing clinical people can also indicate controlling samples in clinical trials.
Difference between clinical involved health care professional and not clinical health care professional are as follows.
1. Involved in patient care- clinical professional are directly involved in diagnosis, treatment and caring the patient while non clinical help indirectly in maintaining, organizing and documenting patient care.
2.type of training - clinical people are trained for skills in managing people and their managment whereas non clinical people are trained for technology and cognitive aspects more.
3. Descison making - clinical people are supposed to take descison on their own and have autonomy whereas the nonclinical people influence descison making process.
4. Responsibility - clinical people are accountable and responsible for any actions towards the patient and their care whereas non-clinical people just help documenting and recording about their duties performed for patient care.
5. Importance of clinical and non-clinic professional - clinical professional are important in managing patient and their care while non clinical professional help in managing health care professional eg. HR department. They are both equally important
Managing people with clinical health care professional.
1. Skill training - clinical people needs to keep abreast with their newer methods and skills improvement. They need to undergo skill training continuing over the period of time. Opportunity should be provided for skill training by in-service education or in-house teaching.
2. Time management - this is of great importance as the whole clinical area depends on appropriate care within cruicial time.
3. Autonomy and responsibility - opportunities should be handed over to the junior staff and others in management and descison making which boost the confidence and improves morale of the clinical people.
4. Established goals - Clinical people function well if the goals of the institution are emphasized upon to bring into positive outcomes. Goals within designated time allows clinical professional to manage time and work for positive outcomes.
5. Using technology to aid - In this digital world, technology should be used at optimum level so as to improve patient care as well make work of the clinical professional easier and precised. Hospital should provide such technology available to clinical professional.
6. Declining additional workload- it is human nature to avoid refusing or declining a help when asked. The clinical professional should be realistic about their workload and decline any extra help asked as it might affect patient care. Clinical people should be trained for it and also managing the staff to prevent work overload should be implemented by the hospital.
