Answer:

Summary on electrical lighting and heating requirements.

Electrical lighting:

Lighting in an industry and for the domestic purpose is used for the illumination purpose.

Requirements of effective lighting:

The requirement of lighting is the aim or the goal for which the lighting is installed in the domestic houses or within an industry. Lighting can be installed for illuminating the space or for glare, to develop a particular mood of the surrounding, for emphasising or hiding the particular things in the space, etc.

Electrical heating:

In the electrical heating process, electrical energy is converted into heat energy. For example, heating of water in geyser is the conversion of electrical energy into heat energy. Electrical heating is used for both the domestic as well as the industrial purpose. Electrical heating method is classified under two categories viz. Power frequency heating and high frequency heating. Power frequency heating is further classified as resistance heating and arc heating whereas high frequency heating is further classified as induction heating and dielectric heating.

Requirements of Electrical heating:

1. Resistance heating can be carried out in two ways viz. Direct and indirect. In direct resistance heating, substance to be heated is the only carrier of electrical energy whereas in indirect resistance heating, resistive element is used to generate heat through ohmic loss. This generated heat is then transferred to the substance which is actually required to be heated.

2. Arc is used to generate very high temperature. Arc heating can be carried out in two ways viz. Direct and indirect. . In direct arc heating, arc is generated between the electrodes and the charge to produce the heat whereas in indirect arc heating, arc is generated between two electrodes and the heat generated is transferred to the charge.

3. Induction heating can be carried out in two ways viz. Direct and indirect. In direct Induction heating, current is made to flow through the charge directly as a result of which it gets heated. . In indirect Induction heating, current is made to flow through the heating element of furnace through the source coil and the generated heat is transferred to the charge through radiation and convection.

4. In dielectric heating, the material to be heated is used as a capacitor between two electrodes and current is made to pass through the capacitor for the generation of heat in it.
