Nine principles of successful nursing leadership

Principle #4: Create and develop leaders

An old adage is, “If your unit or department can run without you, you have done your job.” This is true, so develop your succession plan early. You can’t doo it all alone. Identify your informal and formal leaders and invest in them. Take them to meetings with you; have them provide presentations to the staff and senior-level leaders. Find opportunities to highlight their strengths and minimize their weaknesses. Train them to be the next leaders.

I need to write a response to why this would be a good leadership style for a discussion board

ANSWER:

Leaders can be nurtured and developed, but not manufactured. When you train your next leader place them into situations that will require them to learn and grow.

Examples, give them the opportunity to step up when other leaders are away or to collaborate with colleagues in other departments on a special project. (Collaboration abilities are very important for today’s leaders to possess.)

A successful person finds the right place for himself. But a successful leader finds the right place for others. He or she highlights others’ strengths and helps them overcome their weaknesses. Nurse leaders need to find the time and energy required to nurture those around them into positions of growth, including raising up new leaders from among their own teams.

So, creating and developing leadership is one of the best successful nursing leadership style which we can follow in our day today professional life.
