Sharon is a 32-year-old horse trainer. While training a young horse, she was thrown off of the horse and suffered a mild head injury. The nurse inquires about the use of a helmet. Sharon replies, "This is the first time I have ever had a head injury from a horse. I don't think I need a helmet." Based on your understanding of the skull, how should the nurse respond to the patient?
Answer:
◆ 1. First of all the nurse should respond to the trainer that the wearing of helmet can save her from maximum head injuries.
2. Head injuries are the most common causes of death in the absence of helmets because head is the main functioning part of our body.
3. Nurse also can suggest trainer for the use of helmet during her horse training because if she gets hurt to any other body part except head during her training that can not be dangerous for her life but if she gets hurt to the head that can be more dangerous for her life.
4. Nurse also can teach her regarding the complications of head injuries like; cerebral haematoma, coma, traumatic brain injury, seizures, vertigo, blood vessel damage, hydrocephalus etc.
5. Wearing of helmet can reduce the risk of head injuries impact to your brain and also can be very helpful in the prevention of head injury complications (as listed above).
6. Nurse also can suggest her that helmet will act as a barrier between the skull and whatever's causing the impact.
