In: Statistics and Probability
For each of the following pairs of variables, indicate if you would expect the direction to be positive or negative.
(a) SAT score and College GPA for students.
Distance from the equator and average January temperature for US cities.
Age at death and weekly cigarette consumption
(b) Airfare and distance to destination
Number of miles driven and asking price for a used Honda Civic listed for sale.
Number of classes missed and overall course score in a class.
Note: Positive: As one variable increases the other variable also increases OR As one variable decreasesthe other variable also decreases. That is both variable move in same direction
Negative: Both variable move in opposite direction. That is As one variable increases the other decreases or vice-versa
a)SAT score and College GPA for students. - POSITIVE
( as the SAT score increases the College GPA will also increase)
b)Distance from the equator and average January temperature for US cities.- Negative
( As the distance from equator increases the Temperature lowers i.e, the weather is cold)
c)Age at death and weekly cigarette consumption- Negative
( As the weekly consumption of cigarates decreases the Age of death increases)
d) Airfare and distance to destination- Positive
( As the distance to destination increases the Air fare also increases)
e)Number of miles driven and asking price for a used Honda Civic listed for sale.- NEGATIVE
( As the number of miles driven increases the price of the Honda decreases)
f)Number of classes missed and overall course score in a class- Negative
( As the number of classes you missed increases the sourse score also decreases.
