Identify stakeholders impacted by health care reform and describe two pros and two cons of health care reform related to impacted stakeholders.
The stakeholders of American health care system is an interlocked network of patients, physicians, hospitals, insurers, employers, regulators and other. The considerable change in any component will affect the entire system. Health care reform is denoting not a single change but a series of 92 different provisions to be phased in the coming seven years to gradually transform the complex health care system that utilizes 17 percent of the U.S. economy. The healthcare reforms may include changes like new taxes on the drug industry and lower prescription drug costs for elderly. The most dramatic changes like the individual mandate are also planned in the healthcare reforms.
The Pros and Cons of Healthcare Reform:
Pros :
Improved efficiency:
Healthcare reform and all its provisions will make the hospitals to determine ways to increase the efficiency of the facility, better management of care and well-organized costs. Renovating hospitals and implementing new programs.
A new model of care:
Hospitals can transform from contemporary paid model to value-based models of care. The new trend is the hospitals being held accountable for their patients. In this, the increases number of rendering services will not increase the revenue of the hospital blindly.
Helps the bottom line:
The availability of more financial resources for the healthcare providers will lead to a healthier population. It will mainly benefit the hospital’s surrounding community.
Cons
Increase in administrative costs:
The increase in healthcare administration costs will be a disadvantage of healthcare reforms, especially in the initial period.
Access to coverage:
The difficulty to find a physician coupled with the high attrition rate of doctors is the greatest challenge in the reform.
Cut in payments:
The impact of excessive decreases in Medicare reimbursements will occur as the result of new reform. The government should impose viable methods to help hospitals meet their costs.
In spite of the downsides to healthcare reform, there are so many advantages. The health reform is very important to improve the healthcare system.
