Speech perception is listening the words and understanding and interpreting the language and the message that the sender wants to convey to the receiver.

The complexities of the speech signal posses many issues  for receivers . Although perceiving speech begins with auditory processing, understanding  of speech perception has increased  mostly independently of study of the auditory system. The study of general auditory processing and speech perception, showing that the speech perception  is influenced by operating characteristics of the auditory system and that our understanding of the processes involved in speech perception is enhanced by study within a more general way.

Speech perception is a part of understanding , the whole word is exposed to us for a fraction of seconds still we understand the message conveyed . The perception is affected my change in mood and emotional state too cause understanding and cognition are even affected by mood and emotions .
