Sensory Experience Writing
(Sensory Experience Writing Assignment Directions and Rubric)
write a one page analysis of the interactions of sensation on perception. To be more clear, how do the senses work together to give us the experiences we perceive in the world around us? The finished product should be one page in length with 12 point font and margins of 1 inch.
Sensation and perception are two interrelated processes that
develop over the lifespan of an individual.
Sensation is process of sensing or receiving the stimulus from the
environment through sensory receptors in form of sound , smell ,
touch etc . The stimulus then converted into neural signals and
reaches the brain where it is interpreted in the context that leads
to the perception of reality. Thus, perception is the process of
making meaning out of sensation or physical stimulus that helps to
understand the whole world.
Sensation and perception are complementory to each other . Without the presence of other, sensation or perception donot have any usefulness. If there is no sensation then certainly there cannot be any perception except for extra snsory perception concept. Similarly if there is nothing to give meaning to sensation, it will remain unknkown to the person. Thus both are necessary to understand the realities of the world.
There is interaction but there are differences too. A sensation
is bottom-up processing where stimulus from the environment is
sensed through receptor then transformed into nerve impulse then
send to brain while perception is top-down process where first
whole sensation is received and then given meaning by process of
interpretation.
examples- Sensing that light is turnd on is a sensation but
assessing the color of the light is perception. Similarly, Hearing
a sound is a sensation but determining the language is the process
of perception.
