After carefully reading and reviewing Case 1-1 Ba-Zynga! Zynga faces trouble in Farmville, one can say that changes are needed to improve the employee/managers working relationship, the working environment, and the recruitment and retention process. The type of leadership skills displayed in the case led one to believe that managers intentionally dehumanize employees because of their lack of dexterity. The extreme type of leadership pattern is not the way to attract, retain, and recruit high-potential employees. The company needs to revamp its management style, leadership skills, and implement a strategy to link employees into their business plan.
A key factor that caused the problems within the organization lies within the inadequate route taken to recognize and reward employees. Therefore, if given the opportunity to change Zynga for the betterment of the company, one would (1) implement a reward and recognition program, (2) restructure the performance management process, (3) create a plan that will provide continuous training to managers on employee engagement and encouragement, and (4) create a recruitment and retention plan to help increase the company’s quantity and quality of top performers.
If a company wants to center around performance-driven results, one must focus on the job satisfaction level of the company. To do this, Zynga must strategize to make employees feel valued. In return a valued employee will be more engaged, produces performance-driven results, increase productivity, and add value to the company. The idea of an organization is to create a work environment that is safe, encouraging, engaging, and employee focused. A company’s primary resource is their human capital. If the company takes time to revisit their business strategy, it will help eradicate some of the challenges at Zynga.
