a. Using Excel find Mean and Standard Deviation of the range.
Mean: =AVERAGE(Starting Cell:Ending Cell)
Standard Deviation: =STDEV.S(Starting Cell:Ending Cell)
In this problem:
Mean = 127.30(Centerline); Standard Deviation = 6.91
Hence,
Upper Control Limit = Mean + (3 X Std Deviation) = 127.30 + (3 X 6.91) = 148.03
Lower Control Limit = Mean - (3 X Std Deviation) = 127.30 - (3 X 6.91) = 106.56
The excel table and the graph looks like below:
| Week | Account Balance (in $1000) | Mean | LCL | UCL |
| 1 | 128.703 | 127.30 | 106.56 | 148.03 |

b. As is evident from the excel table and the associated graph above, during Week 13 the account balance was out of control. The possible reasoning could be a surge in demand due to a festival or an unpredictable event.
