Identify the main groups and ideas that drove the Progressive movement in detail
The Progressive Era took place in the US from the 1890s to
the1920s. This movement was an attempt to reform the government and
eradicate the crime within it. The Secular activists also desired
to reformed the institutional system, the church, the insurance
industry which they felt were out of control and not operating in
the genuine interests of the residents.
The main four Main Goals of the Progressive Movement are Preserving
Social Welfare, encouraging competence, Moral Improvement, and
Economic Reforms.
Progressive activist wanted to change people's opinion about the society and wanted them to adopt the Progressive vision of middle-class expressions and thought. This especially applied to matters of entertainment and recreation, the status of the family, sexual familiarization and behavior. Progressives endeavored to revive a judgment of Victorian family and cultural values early in the twentieth century.
To desist the class struggle between
the privileged class and underprivileged class for the
opportunities.
To wanted to control the monopoly over the big business. Social
Activist wanted to control trade which was under the control of
merchants.
They wanted to separate society into societies, based on their
profession, race, sex, and migration status. Dissociation of the
races was seen by Progressives as a method of sustaining race
associations.
