could you give a detailed explanation and example of each of the following phrases : prepositional, infinitive, gerund, and participle ?
Prepositional Phrase – Prepositional Phrase is a branch of words that is made up with one preposition and its object and other words that can modify that object. Usually a Prepositional phrase always changes a verb either a noun. A Prepositional phrase always made up with a preposition and an object.Prepositions is the words that can point out the relationship between the words in a sentence.
Example- The children played at the school’s garden.
Infinitive Phrase- Infinitive Phase is a set of words that always uses a ‘’to ‘’ and a verb. An Infinitive phrase has the function of expressing something through a sentence. An Infinitive phrase is basically a division of a sentence that works as like an adjective and a noun.
Example- I want to go to my school, To plant a tree.
Gerund Phrase –Gerund Phrase always begins with an ing word and also includes other words or objects. Gerund phrase always works as noun. This Gerund Phrase is always the subject, object and sometimes Subject complements in a single sentence.
Example- Climbing is always thrilling for the travelers.
Participate Phrase – Participate Phrase is always an adjective phrase that can start with a past or present participle. So we can say that the participle phrase is always constructed with a participle and that participle can be present or past participle.
Example- I saw my friend running for the Bus.
