Pros/Cons of preventative therapy What do you think are the pros and cons of preventative therapy?
The pros and cons of preventative therapy;
There is a negative correlation between the costs for preventive health services per resident and the indices for in-patient care in case of the insured persons, Fujiwara (1996). Further, there is a general negative correlation between the costs of healthcare in general and the use of preventive healthcare. According to Cooper, Goodwin & Stange (2001), there are negative correlation coefficients between the rate of use of health check-ups and the rates of hospital admission and long stay. The intensity or duration of treatments also decreases.
The disadvantage includes the fact that; according to Chan (2005); the benefits of screening tests may outweigh the risks, which may consist of unnecessary workups for false-positive outcomes, leading to uncalled for financial costs and sometimes even outcomes that do not show an illness, but later on turn out to actually be indications for a specific disease, such as tumors. Patient anxiety resulting from these screening procedures is also a drawback.
