Identify and research a topic in adult development (e.g., memory, muscle strength, etc.) that you wish to examine across various age groups. Develop an outline for either a cross-sectional or longitudinal research design. Write a paper consisting of the following information:
An introduction to the topic you selected, including a summary of at least one peer-reviewed journal article describing recent research (post 2005) on the topic;
A description of how you will measure the topic of study (e.g., the dependent variable).
A description of which type of design will be used and why that would be most appropriate. Also identify what age groups will be studied.
On the basis of your readings and research, provide a prediction of what you expect to find upon completion of your study.
For instance. If we are measuring the varibale of memory, across various sections of people ranging from a certain age group to a bandwidth of a certain age group, then we would be employing a longitudinal cohort study.
Wherein, the samples will be from different sections of she groups and will be studied across their age groups over a stipulated period of time.
This helps in comparative studies over periods of time, and with a construct such as memory, it would make this research design all the more applicable.
This research design would be the most appropriate for this study ad it would help us take and study various Cross sections within the given society and study their construct adoritly.
The age groups that can be clubbed in this cold either range from broad groupings such as gen X and Gen Y or they could have groupings ranging from 13-23 and so on, at intervals of ten.
The dependent varibale will be memory and the independent varibale could be an array of factors, off of which, a few selected sub variables whose effects on memory need to be tested could be measured.
The dependent varibale can be gauged and/or studied by the aid of paper pencil tests which operatanalize the given construct of memory.
