What is the percentage concentration by mass of a solution that contains 0.098 kg of H2SO4 in 500.0 g of H2O

Solutions

Expert Solution

Solution :-

Formula to calculate the percent by mass concnetration is as follows

% by mass = (mass of solute / mass of solution )*100%

mass of water = 500.0 g * 1 kg / 1000 g = 0.500 kg

mass of H2SO4 = 0.098 kg

mass of solution = mass of water + mass of H2SO4

                          = 0.500 kg + 0.098 kg

                          =0.598 kg

now lets calculate the % by mass concnetration

% by mass = (mass of solute / mass of solution )*100%

                   = (0.098 kg / 0.598 kg) * 100%

                   = 16.39 %

So the % by mass of H2SO4 is 16.39 %
