Under the ACA, health insurance companies cannot refuse coverage to individuals because of a pre-existing medical condition. Define what is a pre-existing medical condition? Also, what are the pros and cons of this provision under the law? 250 word answer
Definition: Preexisting medical condition is defined as injury , illness or disease that can be either physical disorder ,medical condition or a mental disorder which is present before the date of insurance plan. It can be asthma , diabetes , hypertension etc.
Pros :
1.It helped people with low salary who cannot afford hospital care and treatment.
2. Even preexisting medical conditions are treated under this.
3. There is no preset limit on expenditure in case of patients with chronic diseases.
4. Many diseases are screened , this helps in early diagnosis and treatment which inturn reduces the amount paid by insurance companies.
5. The cost of medicines will come down and makes it affordable to everyone.
Cons:
1. Premium for this health insurance plans have increase.
2. Many companies have reduced the number of employees as they are asked to provide health insurance.
3. Many new taxes are introduced to compensate the ACA expenditure.
4. People are fined if they didn't have insurance.
