Given : Effect of Cloud-Based Services on Small Businesses in Developing Countries: Case Study of Khomas Region, Namibia
INTRODUCTION :
Cloud computing is the best thing for small business since the invention of the stapler. But that doesn't mean that there are no cloud computing disadvantages and that every small business should immediately throw out all their servers and desktop software and conduct all their business operations in the cloud.
Performance-intensive applications such as video editing are not suited to the cloud, nor are other types of software that require high-performance desktop computers (such as those used for graphic design). Small business owners have different needs and different comfort levels. It may be more advantageous for you to use cloud computing only for certain applications. Or even not at all.
Before you throw caution to the winds and leap wholeheartedly into the cloud, consider how these disadvantages of cloud computing could affect your small business.
1. Limitations :
a) Risk of data confidentiality. There is always a risk that user data can be accessed by other people.
b) Depends on internet connection. The internet is the only way to cloud computing.
c) The level of security. Secrecy and security are among the most doubtful things in cloud computing.
d) Data Mobility.
2. Delimitations :
a) Data storage is one of the most common uses for the cloud for both personal and business uses. Having a place to store your company’s data that can be accessed from anywhere is a convenient option for small businesses. Cloud data storage is typically more cost-effective than running data storage solutions on-premise.
b) If you have a large amount unused storage space. With a public cloud storage solution, you don’t have to worry about maintaining the physical infrastructure.
c) One of the biggest benefits of the cloud, specifically public cloud, is that cloud providers typically offer a pay-as-you-use pricing model for their services.
d) Depending on your business needs, it may be possible for your small company to implement a series of cloud solutions that satisfy most (if not all) of your mission-critical tasks.
3. Research Questions :
a) Is digital technology a democratizing force, allowing smaller, newer companies to compete against giant ones? Or does it provide even greater advantage to incumbents?
b) What is IAAS in Cloud computing? and can it be merged with blockchain for better security? How?
4. Research Ethics :
a) In order to get a clear grasp of what normative requirements follow from our observations so far, we turn to recent changes in the views held by clouders about ownership and freedom.
b) Information about the advantages and disadvantages of cloud computing will primarily have to be provided by the hosting companies and the cloud services providers, because they have the most extensive and up to date knowledge.
c) As a communicative ideal, common knowledge implies such things as that speakers use words not just in ways that are correct according to the dictionary; what should also guide their linguistic choice is whether what they say is likely to be understood by the hearers in the intended way.
Conclusion :
Cloud computing is a great opportunity for small businesses to off-load the hassle and costs of IT management — as long as they can live with the disadvantages. Security issues related to having their business data "out" on the internet seem to be the number one concern of small business owners.
One approach might be to start cloud computing slowly; choose one or two of your business applications to replace and see how it goes. Hopefully, over time, you'll become more comfortable with it and able to reap even more cloud computing advantages.
