Baker has been assigned to research the literature for a possible solution to a major operational problem at his employer. Baker spends many weeks searching the literature and finds a common solution theme for similar problems at various companies in various industries. Baker is somewhat dubious that the commonly reported solution would actually work at his employer. He has been thinking, and has a thought about a different solution that has never been tried before. He must report to the Board of Directors in three days. They are a no-nonsense Board and they expect results. The operational problem must be solved. What should Baker do?

Innovative thoughts bring about sudden solutions. Normally similar problems with similar solutions can be applicable only in a few cases. Though problems may be the same the application of the solution differs from organization to organization. Baker should be bold enough to present the solution he has in mind. He has developed a blue print for the problem and the likely solution implementation has been mapped by him very closely. He knows for sure that the solution he has in mind will definitely work for the problem that the organization is facing. Hence he should request the board to allow him to try the solution. He is fool proof certain that his innovative idea will work and so he should be given a chance.

Operational problems are of different types and strategies to meet the problem depends upon the leadership that is initiating the solution. Baker knows that he is well respected among the staff members and those who are causing the operation makes hurdles need to be met with an iron hand. His leadership has always come to rescue of the organization time and again and so he will definitely try to meet the problem with the alternatives that he has. He has always been known to take initiative and leadership in motivating people to think of something different. The board also knows this and so knowing the capacity of Baker should allow him to try out this   innovative solution. The board also knows that Baker always delivers. This could be one reason why Baker is confident that his solution will work. So baker should press for the solution to be tried.
