Joseph lister is also called as the "Father of antiseptic surgery".He introduced the antiseptic process during surgery which reduced the post operative deaths in 1800.In 1840s and after, there were a great number of deaths associated with child birth and surgery .The alarming rate of "ward fever" made Joseph lister to findout the reason .

He introduced Antiseptic hand wash by surgeons before surgery to prevent infection.(Carbolic acid was used initially).
