In an OB context what is meant by "employee diversity"? Why is a good understanding important to an organization?
In the earlier times in 1950s around,there was no diversity in the workplace in USA.The people were employed on the basis of gender,race,caste etc.The employees were provided with no accommodation for any disability or any and one day The company IBM in USA in 1953, the president wrote letter to employees to hire many employees who have necessary and requirements to join the company without the matter of age,caste,religion.
And after time it tends to follow in every company and diversity in workplace is matter of ethics,many people faces issues with the job and discrimination with them and later to twenty-first century, a law was made for employees diversity employee as it was need to protect discrimination against races,colour,creed,religion etc.
Employee diversity see that all employees in every company should be treated equally and should not face any discrimination.
Good Understanding is very important for the organization due to following advantages-:
1)Various perspectives-Diversity in workplace refers to the individuals have different characteristics and many different skills which will lead the company for many new ideas for planning and many new business decisions.
2)Increased Creativity-Since,many people have their own experiences as they grown up in different backgrounds and this leads to higher creativity as different people of many backgrounds will come up with new ideas.
3)Faster problem solving-It is concluded from a survey that people with same type of cultural people are slow in solving problems and whereas people of diverse team together usually come up with solutions faster.
