1. Role of light in photosynthesis.

  • Photosynthesis is the process in which light energy converted to chemical energy. Using the light energy the carbohydrates such as sugars are synthesized from carbon dioxide and water. Plants use photosynthesis to make food. During photosynthesis, plants trap light energy with their leaves. Plants use the energy of the sun to change water and carbon dioxide into a sugar called glucose. Glucose is used by plants for energy and to make other substances like cellulose and starch.
  • Light energy is absorbed by chlorophyll, a photosynthetic pigment of the plant, while air containing carbon dioxide and oxygen enters the plant through the leaf stomata..

2. Light is a Particle. Light is mainly like a wave but it also consists of tiny packeage of energy called photons which carries a fixed amount of energy. The flow of photons are referred as wave.But light has no mass. Increase in the intensity of light results in the increase in ejection of electrons, but not their speed.

3. Light behaves like waves. The flow of energy,the photons are referred as light waves. It undergoes reflection, refraction, and diffraction like waves. The light waves composed of electric and magnetic fields. The fields vibrate at right angles to the direction of movement of the wave, and at right angles to each other. Because light has both electric and magnetic fields, it's also referred to as electromagnetic radiation.
