Textile industry is considered as one of the largest industries in the world. Studies showing that consumers spend around 1.3 $ trillion on textiles .
Textile industry uses enormous amount of water and energy for production and care of clothes.
Several activities in textile processing affects our environment adversely.
Processes like bleaching and dyeing make a harmful toxin that swells our ecosystem. Use of rayon for clothing lead to fast depletion of forest.
Business must use control measures and should ensure that the product is free from toxic effect. We can make it more eco friendly by using alternative fabrics.
Steps to be taken by management to make the business more environmentally responsible:
• Textile business can be eco-friendly by using eco friendly using eco friendly fabrics ( less use of chemical and pesticides) like bamboo, soy silk, organic cotton , jute , Ramie, Milk silk, Cotton silk etc..
• By following best Land management animal friendly practices
• Follow eco friendly certified trade practices.
• Use an ecofriendly process such as bleaching the material by sunshine, using eucalyptus for removing stain and so on.
• Eliminates the material which needs to dry clean.
• Reduce consumption of water and energy while preparation, colouration and finishing
• Waste water while processing material should be treated appropriately before releasing it to the environment.
• Waste water can also able to recycle. This is suitable for human contact.
• Natural dyes
Using of natural dyes that are created from bugs, barks, flowers, minerals, rust and other natural resources. This allow small producers to retain their traditional method of dyeing and promote biodiversity.
• Recycling
Giving new life to old material can reduce pollution to a limit. It will helps to increase the life of clothes and also helps to reduce the depletion of forest.
It is the responsibility of manufacturers and designers to follow Eco Friendly practices which are not harmful to our environment. Textile business should concentrate more on organic clothes that makes high pressure on the nature.
