Imagine you work for Clue, Inc., a small company as Director of Sales. You have worked there for five years, and the company has been successful. The owner, Mrs. White, decides to retire, and sells the company to an investor, Col. Mustard. You have a good sense of who your customers are and what is important to them, but Col. Mustard isn’t interested in your ideas. He directs you to pursue a different strategy. After 6 months, sales are down and customer satisfaction is, too. Col. Mustard blames you for the decrease in sales.

What is your attitude in response to this situation? Address all three components of attitude (cognitive, affective, and behavioral). Would it make a difference whether you have high job involvement or low job involvement? Incorporate aspects of work environment, competence, meaningfulness of the job, and perceived autonomy. Using the Exit-Voice-Loyalty-Neglect model, how might you personally choose to express dissatisfaction in this situation?

Expert Solution

In this situation Col.Mustard is not able to understand the importance of work or sales development done by me. He is in his own mindset of army life and does not have much awareness about civic like and dislikes. Cognitive attitude -Col. Mustard is new to work and as per his former position he obviously wants to implement his ideas without considering my opinion, since the sales has gone down I would tell him the old strategies used. Affective refers to emotional part of attitude - It would be considering emotional side of Col as in why is he behaving like that, does he like s to command and fire, has it become his attitude. Behavioural - I would conduct a top customer meeting with Col, and let him know the expectations and my work.

There should always be high job involvement in order to bring the change

Exit,Voice,Loyalty,Neglect model (EVLN) refers to how employees report to dissatisfaction. I would chose the VOICE strategy i.e. raising my inner voice and show how sales were earlier instead of leaving company or neglecting the situation to get it worsen
