                                           The study of brain structure to criminal behaviour

Background:

The study of brain structure has proved important in the study of criminals and criminal behavior .Neuroscientists and forensic psychiatrists have studied the abnormalities of the brain contributing to aggression and criminal behavior. It was not the only the environmental stressors that contributed but the deformities or the low functioning or enhanced functioning of certain parts of the brain that also contributed to such behavior.However we cannot blame the deformities alone, but they did play a vital role in evaluating criminal behavior. Aggression in individuals above the normal range led to violent behavior.

Objectives:

The Aim of the study is to understand how Neuroscience has made a remarkable contribution to criminology and identifying the motive of criminals and psychopaths in understanding why such crimes were committed.

Materials and Methods:

Neurophysiological studies have shown that lack of activation or injury of the pre frontal cortex contributed to aggression.Amygdala which plays an important role in emotions showed reduce activity. Research studies have shown that people with violent behavior had structural and functional impairment in the prefrontal cortex.

Omega 3 fatty acid which contains fish oil tends to improve the nerve cells were included in the diet of young offenders. It was shown that aggression was reduced by 35% .

Brain scans and other imaging techniques helped to study the skull structure and brain functions.

Results and Conclusion:

Neuroscience has made a remarkable contribution in identifying psychopath behavior and how it can be rectified .It helps to prevent further violent behavior or identify future criminals. Can criminals be punished or forgiven due to their findings in their abnormality in the brain? Rehabilitation of prisoners can include these major factors to evaluate the severity of the crime. The aim of our society is to protect and safeguard from such crimes happening in the future.

The results of the study were based on the study from previous research and from Google search engine.
