What are “temporal clustering” and “spatial clustering” in descriptive epidemiology? What is the significance of each type of clustering?
Clustering is an assembled series of events of a disease or other health-related conditions with a known distribution pattern as per the time and place. Clustering could show public exposure to an etiologic agent, and chances of incidence.
The two types of clustering are spatial and temporal clustering.
spatial clustering depicts cases of disease that transpire in a given setting
and temporal clustering indicates related health events during a particular time.
In descriptive epidemiology, temporal clustering is used in the analysis of geo-temporal data at the highest level of abstraction by placing similar data into clusters.
And in Spatial clustering, spatial objects grouped into divisions in a vital component of spatial data mining. this type of clustering is used to identify places of the same land usage in an earth observation data and or in integrated regions with the same weather pattern.
Descriptive epidemiology is used in the classification of the incidence of a particular disease based on variables ( example , affected persons, place where the disease condition takes place) and the time the condition occurred.
Descriptive epidemiology uses its three branches, case reports, cross-sectional studies, and case series to categorize disease incidences.
